A Metaphysics of Desire, Authority, and Bodily Custody
Desire is not only what you feel toward another person, but what you feel about yourself in their presence. The book’s central claim
The book
The Dark Hierarchy is a finished work of erotic philosophy, speculative theology, and field testimony. It challenges the Lacanian doctrine of lack from inside lived hierarchical practice, and argues that desire can be affirmative and structural rather than an eternal reach toward an absent object.
Written from inside the leather and hierarchical scenes of Berlin, Stockholm, and Amsterdam, it holds sustained argument, liturgy, testimony, and practical reflection in one deliberately authored structure. Its distinction is formal, not a claim to be the first serious book on its subject.
The argument
Desire as recognition of the self one may become in another’s presence: an affirmative account set against lack.
Four channels of response (visual, emotional, tactile, intellectual) offered as a reflective framework, not a diagnosis.
Bergman’s dictum extended: Order and Humor. Order gives a dynamic its spine; humor keeps it from curdling into tyranny.
Autonomy as the power to refuse and revise; exclusivity as one chosen, revocable form of belonging.
The audience
Independent research and event data show that the book’s territory is not a fringe curiosity. The figures below are third-party market context, sourced at the foot of this section; they are not projections for this title.
had performed at least one BDSM-related activity; 12.5% do so regularly and 7.6% self-identify as practitioners.1
expressed interest in at least one paraphilic category; about a third had experience of one (n = 1,040).2
visitors expected at the 2025 edition, up from about 3,500 at the first, per the organiser.3
admissions sold in presale for 2024, with 437 performers and 290 vendors.4
estimated registered members worldwide; figures vary by source and are unaudited.5
sold worldwide per its publisher: mass readership for the subject, in a very different register.6

The Echo-System
A free service for personal reflection, built to academic standards and open to further research. Seven instruments let readers return to the book’s questions privately. Each gives a reflection inside the book’s framework; none ranks, types, or diagnoses. They are also the book’s event language: a reader-facing surface for reading series, philosophy nights, and seminars.
What one work makes possible
The theory supports a monograph, an instrument-validation paper, a pre-registered replication, and a plain-language companion for practitioners. Each builds on the same text and tools.
Six falsifiable hypotheses and an anonymous-by-design pipeline give institutions a concrete route to verify or develop the argument. See the roadmap.
Seven private instruments, 5–12 minutes each, give a reader something useful the same day, and a reason to return to the book.
A reader can try an instrument in minutes, share an anonymous comparison link, or scan the QR on page 312. A journalist can do the same, and the author, the data position and the programming formats are ready.
